Hello Folks,
I am a recent RPCV... two months and counting... I am sad to say that Peace Corps Bangladesh is now shut down. We were evacuated in March. Its been really traumatic for most of us and there is no real sense of closure. Anyway, thought I would say hello and try to venture into various RPCV communities as most people don't understand what it means to be a volunteer. I am actually on my way to Thailand and Cambodia next week for a month long vacation and then I will look for a job.
Cheers!
Maya

Re: RPCV Evacuated from Bangladesh
Mon, May 8, 2006 - 5:22 PMWhen I was in service in Romania I knew several volunteers evacuated from other countries (the 'stans, Macedonia, & China), did they offer another country to finish your two years in, or were you too far along?
Enjoy your holiday, and good luck with the job search. -

Re: RPCV Evacuated from Bangladesh
Thu, May 25, 2006 - 11:54 PMThey did offer other countries but I decided to become an RPCV and go back to grad school. It was really traumatic in Bangladesh for me with the threats and the evacuation as well as a direct personal threat to me at my site. Enough for now!!! Yikes! I am having an extended holiday in Thailand and will be home in June! I may do Peace Corps again but not for several years.

Live it up on the beach for a bit and get some R&R and recover a bit.
hell, seems it took a year for me to be on the road to grad school after PC. So don't kill yourself with tons of deadlines.
e-mail off list if you feel the need.
